Come and take the Second Amendment

Sorry I’ve been away for so long. Life happens. But given the recent surge in anti-liberty sentiment since the Parkland shooting, I’ve stayed in touch with politics.

There has been a lot of chatter recently about the Second Amendment. Repeal and replace it. “Assault weapons” aren’t protected by it. It’s only for muskets. I could go on and on.

But what people seem to be forgetting is that the Second Amendment doesn’t really matter. Before you freak out, pro-gunners, hear me out!

The right to keep and bear arms as enumerated in our Constitution is a natural right. The Second Amendment just specifies that the government can’t infringe on that right. What is a natural right? It is a right granted to us by God. And for those non-religious folks, it is a right you are born with. It doesn’t matter what race, creed, or nation you belong to. You have natural rights. They are inalienable and no human law can take them from you.

Therefore, even if the Second Amendment was repealed or never existed in the first place, you have the right to keep and bear arms. Any arms! Not just muskets or hunting rifles. While governments may be adept at restricting that right and making arms difficult to obtain, it’s still your right. So, if you violate the laws of your nation by keeping weapons you’re ok by God.

So to the gun grabbers – have at it! You can take the Second Amendment from us. But you won’t take the right to keep and bear arms from us. The Second Amendment never gave us that right. It already existed. Any attempt to tell Americans (or anyone for that matter) that we can’t have guns, or even just specific types of guns, is hogwash. Ignore it. You have a natural right to own those guns. Non-compliance wouldn’t be a sin, but it might be illegal. But remember, as the great Benjamin Franklin wanted to place within our Great Seal, “rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.”
